September 13, New York. The annual Cost of a Date study from premium dating site EliteSingles has been released for 2019. And this year, San Francisco replaces New York as America’s most expensive city for dating.

- The least expensive city is Omaha – where a date night is $60 cheaper than SF
- An average US date night costs $116; global average is $85
- Oslo, Norway is the world’s most expensive capital for dating. Washington DC is #3
EliteSingles defined a date night as one including dinner for two, a bottle of wine, two movie tickets, and a 5-mile cab ride. The dating site then looked at the average costs of these items in 21 major US cities and in 30 capital cities around the world.
In 2019, an average date night in the USA is $116. The most expensive date night in the country is in San Francisco, where a romantic evening will set you back an average of $143. In New York (which held the #1 spot in 2017 and 2018), the same date is $142.
At the other end of the scale is Omaha, where a romantic night costs just $83 – $33 below average and $60 less than the same date in San Francisco.

EliteSingles also looked at the cost of the same date (in USD) in 30 capital cities around the world. An average global date night costs $85 – $31 less than the US average, and a similar price to a date night in Omaha.
A date night in Oslo, Norway is the world’s most expensive: at $159, it puts even San Francisco’s costs into perspective. London, UK, comes in at #2, with a cost of $142, while Washington DC takes third at $135. DC just beats Tokyo to the third-place finish – a date in the Japanese capital costs $134.
The cheapest capital city for dating is Ankara, Turkey. A date in the city costs just $36: less than the price Americans typically pay for dinner alone.
