At EliteSingles our job is to bring like-minded American singles together. Part of this involves introducing our members to men and women who meet relationship expectations – if you’re ready to see if your matches fit the bill then join EliteSingles today!
Of course, you may find it easier to take our free personality test and be upfront about any relationship expectations if you know that your preferences are reasonable. With that in mind, EliteSingles conducted a member survey to look at what our users want in a partner…do your requirements fit in?
The individuality of relationship expectations
When it comes to relationship expectations, there’s no such thing as one-size-fits-all. Some people prefer a partner who is ambitious, others want to meet someone who lives in the same city, still others are seeking a relationship with someone who shares their personality.

That said, groups of people who have something in common tend to share certain similarities of expectation. Christian singles, for instance, may be more likely to expect religious belief from a partner, while those over 50 might prioritize more mature dating. And, as it turns out, attractive people might just have the highest relationship expectations of all.
Do attractive singles demand more?
As part of an EliteSingles survey about love and finances, we asked our participating members whether or not they deemed themselves ‘attractive.’ We then gauged the importance they placed on five common relationship expectations: wealth, success, good looks, a sense of humour and intelligence.
The responses revealed that people seeing themselves as attractive have substantially higher demands in these areas. For example, 69 per cent of (self-identifying) attractive singles believe that their future partner should be smart, compared to just 42 per cent of those who deemed themselves less attractive. It was a theme that echoed across every expectation that we examined: from demands for wealth (83 per cent/63 per cent) to demands for wit (78 percent/ 71 per cent). Across the board, those who saw themselves as attractive had more exacting requirements than those who didn’t.
Attractiveness, self confidence and the dating market
As psychologist and EliteSingles researcher Dr Wiebke Neberich points out, the most interesting thing about these results is that they show how self-perceived attractiveness goes hand-in-hand with the kind of confidence that leads one to get very specific about relationship expectations. She says: ‘’the most important thing regulating the partner market seems to be one’s own perceived ‘market value’ …what we get depends on what we ourselves have to offer. Attractiveness is a valued quality and can thus be ‘exchanged’ at a good ‘price.’”
Of course, at EliteSingles we believe that every single who is serious about love should be given the chance to get specific about their partner requirements – for how else is one supposed to find the man or woman who truly suits them? We believe that all of our members – even those who see themselves as unattractive – deserve nothing less than a partner who lives up to expectations: a partner who makes them realize just how attractive they truly are. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder after all, and we want to help you meet someone who sees yours.
